Fashion For Fall

The mental shift to gear up for a new season can seem odd when the sun is still beating down in full summer mode. However, if fashion designers know anything, it’s how to pique our interest in what we will be wearing when it cools right down. And let’s be honest, at this point even the most dedicated fans of summer (such as myself) are ready for a change of pace.
Whether you choose to go softly softly and start with a few trans-seasonal pieces, or whether you want to jump in with both feet, like being at a buffet, it’s good to know what’s on offer before you start loading up your plate. The burning question is, what is going to be the hero of your dish?
Dress Smart
There are dress options a-plenty, with colours, prints and styles that cover the full spectrum. The shirt-dress is a nice nudge into autumn, and can be layered over pants, worn loose or cinched in at the waist. A flowing midi can equally lend itself perfectly to the trend of being worn free or nipped in with a cowboy belt (a great way to buy into the cowboy trend but without going the whole hog). If you want to take that look to another direction then instead pull it in at the waist with an on trend belt bag.
Sleek Separates
We knew that terracotta shades were going to still be big news for autumn, and rusty reds are bang on trend. Try putting sunburnt orange and wine together for a colour combo that will wow. If you want a stand out separate then look for either a slinky skirt, a tight-pleated piece or wide legged pants – any of these will rock. Pinstripes are on point, and have taken on a new vibe this season. Look at pairing your pinstriped pants with a white shirt, or a high-waisted pair with a cropped jacket. There’s a new push for tailoring this season, which is leaning towards a sharper silhouette. Picture tailored trousers with shirts and belts – super smart, but a softer look than a suit. This is also a slightly different take on the eponymous androgynous style that has been in favour for some time. The big difference being this is a look that women with shape can wear.

Smart To Casual
If you feel queasy at the thought of double denim, then look away. But you may miss out, because it’s a hit this season. If you want to style this up then add a pair of smart pumps or heels and a blazer on top of your jacket, and you’ll find this is a look that may even take you to the office. For a high glam but low effort vibe then you can’t really get past fur, faux fur or a feather topper. Any of these will look as fabulous over a simple tee and jeans as they do over an evening outfit.
