Elk aficionados know that this label only drops each new collection every six months. Devotees will have been counting the days in anticipation, waiting with baited breath for the latest line to be revealed. Well, the time has come to let out a sigh; brace yourselves, as always the wait is most definitely worth it.

 

A brand that prides itself on its commitment to the process of creation as much as the product itself, each piece is a labour of love. With a ‘family’ of international makers, part of the joy for Melbourne based Australian owners Marnie Goding and her husband Adam Koniaras, is the knowledge that they are bringing trade to small communities all over the world. Craft is a huge element in the production of Elk items, and this love of the process can be seen across their collections of bags, jewellery, shoes and clothing.

 

 

When it comes to the womenswear the wearability factor is a massive part of the appeal. Fans talk of the flattering fits and the way in which all body shapes are catered for, and this is more apparent than ever in the latest designs. Dresses are understated and elegant – there is a focus on the fall of the fabric, and on the cuts that can be worn by every shape and size. Jumpsuits continue to be big fashion news for the coming months, but these can sometimes leave the wearer feeling a big lumpy and bumpy.  If this has put you off, then think again - I was drawn to the soft dark denim Lorna Jumpsuit -perfectly on point with its wide legs, I know from experience this style is often better on someone with more than 5ft 5 on their side. Shock of shocks, when I slipped it on I couldn’t believe how fabulous it felt (gotta love a bit of Lycra in denim). It also turned out to be incredibly sleek. The Oens Jumpsuit is another uber easy to wear piece. Fabricated from viscose crepe, it will be a spring/ summer basic that can take you from the boardroom to the beach.  There is a lack of pretention in the design of Elk clothing, a flirtation with current fashion that means that while wearers are on trend, the pieces will stand the test of time.

 

 

Linen is a massive look for spring, and one that is always popular because as a natural fibre it does everything we want in a fabric. In the heat it is cool, it allows the body to breathe, it’s anti-cling and anti-static, But hey, if you thought that it was time that this fabric had an aesthetic makeover then Elk is right there with you. This season the linen has been jooshed up with a metallic glint. This simple transformation brings life to linen, and gives wearers more than a dash of glam. A clever use of bamboo has created the Waterfall Dress - through the roof when it comes to comfort levels, but without compromising on style. These are clothes that don’t wear women, but rather that women love to wear.
