Key Trends And How To Wear Them

 Spring Style Guide Part 2

Budding Fashion - Floral Prints Are In Vogue

The floral print is with us in many, many forms, from vintage to eclectic to downright zany, the flower definitely has the power. Overall fashion is joyful – colours cover the spectrum of bold to sugary as candy, but whatever the flavour they are lifting the mood sky-high.  So jump aboard the fashion train and know that the ride will leave you feeling faaaabulous

Very Vintage

The mood is prettier and softer than we’ve seen for a while,
With no throwback era left uncovered, whatever your penchant, you’ll find something to love. For the gentle constitution there’s a strong resurgence in vintage florals a la ’40s and ‘50s. This is a look so delicate and so feminine that it’s hard to resist. Picture ruffles, think nipped in or wrap waistlines. Then cast your eyes on the Coop Over My Shoulder maxi, which encapsulates this look to perfection, retro but with funk in the form of flat fitting side pockets. This dress also comes in a shorter length for a more casual feel.  With its floaty sleeves and tie waist The Isaac + Lulu Poppy Dress is another beauty with a vintage feel.  As with anything that is retro in style, the key to bringing the overall look up to speed is in the accessories; by mixing with up-to-the-minute add-ons you can show that you’re giving a nod to the era, but avoid looking like you’ve gone wild with Auntie Ethel’s tablecloth. A pair of oversized mirrored Trelise Cooper sunnies will give you a dash of ooh la la, however if you go for statement accessories then it’s probably best to keep everything else simple. For footwear try the Chaos & Harmony Pure block heel out for size.

Love is in the air

Pivotal to the Spring/ Summer 2018 trends is the feel of romance, and there’s nothing that says romance like a floral bouquet. Whether a touch of pretty pastel, or a hint of boho, the dreamy combinations ooze femininity. Twinset has created the most indulgent floral treat in the form of its sugar sweet Peony print, which comes in two very different styles. The pastel colours of this silk muslin are just so pretty, and the fabric is oh so soft, falling in gentle folds and creating a stunning silhouette. Of course the beauty is so often in the fabric, and nothing is as sensuous to the touch as silk. The Loobie’s Story Palma Maxi taps into the joys of this natural fibre, and is crafted from100% silk; meanwhile its beautiful Indigo base will enhance most complexions. Wearable whimsy can be found in many variations this season, and the Matilda dress from Mist really does epitomize this feel. An uber flattering midi, this is a daywear floral that is a delight to slip on. With any of these styles, to balance out the sweetness of the print, look to something basic to put with them, so that the focus is on the print, not the accessory.

Mix and Match

Versatility is the name of the game for 2018, and there are so many ways to make a floral tribute that if you feel less is more, you can still join the fun. A super soft floral blouse, or tiered skirt that can be paired with a plain top or pair of pants, is the perfect investment this season. Loobie’s Story has come in with a double whammy – with its soft gold tone the Lombok range is perfectly on point with this season’s king of the colour palette, yellow. The Naudic Water lily collection brings more divine colour combinations, with hues of blue, green, pink and red and all in super versatile styles. For just a taste of floral, the delicate watercolours of Ink the Label Shirley Not Top is a just a delight. However you choose to style the trend, be sure to know that even a dash of flora is enough to keep you fashion forward.
