Staples That Are Worth Treating Yourself To
If you love to live by the mantra that less is more, then you’ll be one step ahead in the game of wardrobe staples. If you’re by nature a gatherer, it may be more of a learning curve. Whichever way you incline, there’s no doubt that the months ahead will be more stylish with certain pieces within easy reach inside your wardrobe.
A Trench Coat
The oversized trench is something that I’ve been steeling myself up to take the plunge on for sometime, but its position at the top of the table of high fashion stakes this season is enough incentive to finally bite the bullet. The slouchy silhouette is absolutely on point, and Maud Dainty has the perfect offering, which in classic beige is undoubtedly a timeless piece of fashion magic. For those that love the idea of a trench, but simply need more versatility – watch and weep; Sabatini have brought us a long coat that transforms into a bomber with the whip of a zip. And the final twist on the trusty trench? The Moss & Spy Magnolia is a stunning organza cover up in the style of a long coat – a showstopper for sure.
A Pencil Skirt
The longer, slimmer lines of a pencil skirt give a wonderfully flattering fit - this is perhaps why the pencil skirt has shot to the top of this season’s must have list, yet in reality is never really far from the fashion fore. The pencil skirt is in many ways the ultimate staple, as it really can work for day or night, office or outing. And no one does the pencil skirt quite as well as Paula Ryan, who uses such a beautiful weight of fabric that its cut is the perfect combination of sleek fit, without clinging in the wrong places. Such is the quality that longevity is guaranteed.
A Statement Dress
The art of an investment piece purchase is that whilst being on trend, it doesn’t adhere to transient fashion. The Moss & Spy collection of special occasion dresses perfectly captures this brief – absolutely dazzling, eye-poppingly elegant, yet ultimately timeless. The Camille Dress is cut in a pencil style that is very on point this season, but will ultimately never date. Equally the Danube Gown treads a line of fashion forward, with its high split and beaded bodice, but has a timeless silhouette. The Marlena contrasts nude and black lace, which is a nod to the ongoing love of lace overlay, but again, a classic style which hugs curves and falls to the perfect length for either black tie or cocktail events.
A Leather Jacket
Nothing shouts staple quite as loudly as a leather jacket, but rather than just accessorizing an outfit, what we see for the coming season is a jacket that IS the outfit. The Trelise Cooper Dagger To The Heart Jacket is enough to make you swoon with delight, and is basically an heirloom piece. Butter soft leather that has been hand embellished with stunning beadwork, the slight crop and flared sleeve gives a feminine feel to a classic biker jacket. The softening up of the traditional leather jacket can also be seen in the Curate Mix Master Jacket, which is painted with beautiful floral detailing. I don’t think it gets much better.
