Irresistible Woolens To Take You Through The Week

The Seven Deadly Knits
Knitwear is a seasonal staple, which is great because it means you don’t feel guilty when it comes to replacing and updating your collection. This year has seen knitwear really come into it’s own, not just as a throw on, but also as the hero of the outfit. In fact so cool are the knits out there, that with a little help from your woolly friends every day of the week can scream sartorial style.

Monday

In my mind the beginning of the week definitely lends itself to a more corporate feel, regardless of whether you’re off to the office or slinking around town. With this season’s knitwear doubling as outerwear you can ditch a traditional jacket and throw on a super cool piece of knitwear, while still keeping your outfit smart enough for the boardroom. Alternatively you can swap a shirt for a rib sweater, and still hit the mark.

Tuesday

Surely it’s got to be a turtleneck for Tuesday. Never out of style the high rolled neck and closer fit of this style simply screams sophistication. A little bit retro, it can be turned to so many looks; paired with a pencil skirt for an iconic 50s feel, or together with wide leg pants for a 70s vibe. For a modern mood then a strong trend is for ultra neutral, so try head to toe with cream, camel or khaki.

Wednesday

Mid week blues can easily be shaken with a statement piece to pick-yourself-up. The Taylor merino cowl knit fits the bill to perfection – more than a knit, this can be worn in myriad ways – cowl to the front or back, you choose. Go for subtle but style-focused with a feature such as an emblem or a zip – Sills has this perfectly on point with the Leith jumper. Or just opt for wow factor with a piece that takes centre stage.

Thursday

It’s easy to drop the style ball come Thursday, but instead why not throw on one of the strongest silhouettes of this season, the cape or poncho. Not only super sophisticated, the poncho will hide a multitude of sins under its capacious cover, so if you’ve realized you’ve spilt your breakfast down your shirt, or are just having a bad body image day, then the poncho is your pal.  Loobies Story has added a clever twist on the old-school style poncho by incorporating side ties, which gives a sleeker look. Or pick a serious pop of colour to brighten the day.

Friday

End the working week on a high note with some texture clashing. Totally on trend, look at pairing a chunky knit with a silky pair of pants or skirt, and top off the look with feathers or fur. Or conversely match a sleek fine knit with leather pants and throw a course knit on top. It’s Friday, so more is definitely more.

Saturday

Inevitably a day that brings a mixed bag of requirements – from keeping cosy on the sideline while watching winter sports to rushing around the mall, grabbing a coffee in a café or a wine at a bar to celebrate the weekend. Layering is absolutely imperative on a day like this; so you want to pick yarns that you can build up or strip down to keep you at the ideal temperature.

Sunday

Who doesn’t love to just grab the snuggest jumper from the wardrobe to wear on the one day a week most people throw the style handbook out of the window? At the end of the week it’s all about how you feel, and nothing feels better than a cuddly knit.
